Do this to survive the rest of 2024!

The holidays are here, and while they're my favorite time of year (mostly for the white chocolate covered Oreos;)), they can also be a chaotic whirlwind. If you're a creature of habit like me, you might be feeling a bit apprehensive about the inevitable disruption to your perfectly scheduled life.

First, let's acknowledge that the next week or sowill likely be a delightful (and slightly terrifying) departure from your usual routine. Whether you're embarking on a festive family road trip or facing a social calendar overflowing with holiday ‘Favorite Things’ parties, expect the unexpected. There will be treats and goodies EVERYWHERE.

But instead of emerging from the holiday haze on January 1st feeling like you've been run over by a reindeer, it's entirely possible to enjoy the festivities and still maintain a semblance of sanity. It’s not easy, but you can do it!

Enter: Holiday Non-Negotiables – a few simple habits that can help you navigate this joyous (and sometimes stressful) season without completely losing your mind.

You may be saying, “Annie, I already fell off track” - this is okay (so have we;)), and you STILL have time to dial it in before the ball drops at midnight.

Here are a few I'm prioritizing this year:

  • Daily Dose of Fresh Air: A brisk walk each day to combat the inevitable holiday weight gain (and the annoying dread that comes with it).

  • Veggies and Protein: A Match Made in Heaven: Including these in at least two meals daily to avoid feeling like a grumpy Grinch by Christmas Eve.

  • Sleep: My Most Important Holiday Gift: Aiming for 7-9 hours of quality sleep and limiting the eggnog consumption to a reasonable (and delicious) level.

  • Stick to a Schedule (Somewhat): This helps curb the impulse to snack on Christmas cookies 24/7 and prevents me from accidentally wearing my pajamas to all of my coaching video calls!

These work for me, but YOUR non-negotiables might be a little more...festive. Maybe it's daily gratitude to combat the holiday stress or a firm rule of brushing your teeth and swishing with some mouthwash immediately after dinner.

Pick a few things that work for YOU and stick to ‘em! Whatever helps you maintain your sanity amidst the holiday cheer!
