What EXACTLY is Meal Prep?

The definition of meal prep is the practice of planning and preparing meals in advance.

To a lot of people - this seems quite overwhelming, however, we encourage you to look at it from YOUR perspective, and what is manageable for you.

Start small:

  • chop up your favorite veggies, and store them in a container at eye level in your refrigerator

  • batch cook your favorite protein on Sunday, so it’s easily accessible for the week (we like to bake four to six chicken breasts, all seasoned differently, and brown up 1lb of lean ground beef and 1lb of lean ground turkey)

    • we use different seasoning on each chicken breast (lemon pepper, garlic powder, ranch seasoning, buffalo sauce, etc.)

    • we throw in a few handfuls of spinach into our ground meat to get in some veggies, and generally keep it minimally seasoned so we can use the ground meat for a variety of meal options:

      • for spaghetti with protein or egg noodles

      • with taco seasoning for tacos or a taco salad

      • for our protein on nachos made with protein chips, reduced fat shredded cheese, onions, salsa and Greek yogurt (excellent high protein option to substitute for sour cream)

  • have a large bowl of fruit sitting on your counter, and chopped up fruit in the refrigerator

  • make four to six servings of your favorite whole grain carb (white rice, brown rice, quinoa, etc.)

You don’t have to buy the fancy, portioned plastic containers with covers, and cook elaborate recipes each night for dinner. We mean - you can, but we don’t have time for that;)

Once you get in that habit, meal prep becomes easier, and evolving to portioning out meals can be the next step if you’d like.

Think of the acronym KISS - keep it simple sweetie;)
